Just a Prayer Away

In our life, seasons change, and life evolves, making the time we spend with God look different.  In some seasons, we are able to spend hours in praise and worship, bible study, and prayer.  However, in other seasons and as life changes, the time we carve out may look different.  I don’t know if you also have the same issues I do, but somehow, when I make plans, I believe it’s God’s front-row seat to a comedy show because something ALWAYS changes. So when life happens or changes occur, how do you keep God a priority?

One day, I made these lovely plans that I was going to spend this day with myself and God.  However, a number of events happened and I was forced to be out of the house shuffling people too and fro.  I remembered being so upset, as my day was not going according to my plan. Of course, we always blame the enemy.  Not that he is not responsible sometimes, but in this case, it was different. What was supposed to be a lovely day was marred by my miserable mood.

But God is so graceful. He always finds a way to either check or reassure you. In my complaining and whining, I felt the Holy Spirit say. “The time you take to complain and whine between trips is the time you can be praying and praising me.”  Talk about a reality check. Yes, my day looked different, and yes, it was not unfolding according to my plan. But, that did not mean that God could not be incorporated.

When I began to focus on God and not my “spoiled plans”, I began to see at that moment, that I was His hands and feet in the world.  Sometimes the only Jesus people see is the Jesus in you and me.  My short bursts of prayer and praise to Him between trips were so much more meaningful. His presence was felt all along the way.  People were helped and He was praised, and isn’t that what “Christianity” is supposed to look like?

Yes, there will be times that we have to dedicate a specific time to pray without distractions and set ourselves apart.  But 1 Thessalonians 5:17, also directs to “Never stop praying”.  Ephesians 6:18 tells us “to pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests and be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people”. My interpretation of “never stop praying” and “pray on all occasions” is that all day every day we should be communicating with God and develop a prayerful heart.

Therefore, if your season has changed and your “devotion life” looks different, don’t allow a changing season or in this case, spoiled plans, to create distance.  Find creative ways to talk to God each day.  It could be in the car or bus on your way to work or school.  You can find a moment at your desk when you take a five-minute break or along the corridor as you journey to the washroom.  You can practice praying and praising as you wash dishes at the sink or as you cook that meal for your family.  God is always present and waiting to hear from you.  Don’t let life’s detours alter your relationship with God.  Remember, He is just a prayer away. Thanks hun for this timely reminder….it comes on the heels of a Rocky day for me where I found myself just spouting out all the bad that I have encountered recently. I shall remember to praise him all through….despite it all

Thanks Nike, so true, at times I find myself in the same situation and by fussing we don’t achieve anything, we only stress ourselves.
    Jesus’s love is unconditional.
